If you are signed up for a trip, here are some things to remember and possibly bring

‍ In most cases, you will sleep in dorms on bunk beds. The food is safe, and sometimes simple. Filtered water will be available. The water in the camp is pretty clean, but we recommend using the filtered water to brush your teeth and rinse. Please let us know if your GI is upset, antibiotics do wonders. If your doctor will give you a Cipro prescription it comes in handy for this (one in the morning and one at night generally knocks it out.) The nights will be about 70 F and the days between 70 and 90 depending on the time of year. May through August often sees late afternoon or evening rain. It’s a great idea to have a water bottle. If you like, you can buy a bottle of water at a gas station and then refill it during the trip. You can bring American dollars (any denomination) and use it for snacks etc. getting Lempira for change. Make sure that the dollars you bring are pristine. I mean REALLY pristine. Go to the bank ahead of time and explain and they will help you. We have a washer and dryer on site. It might not be a bad idea to bring a little detergent in a screw-top bottle in a checked bag, in case we run short. The power is the same as in the USA so if you want to plug in a camera or a flashlight you don’t need anything special. ‍The septic systems in Honduras are not built to the same code as the USA. You will see trash cans in the bathrooms. These are for disposing of toilet paper.

Flexibility is key to your experience here. Plans will change, guaranteed. Also, ultimately, we want to be obedient today to what God asks of us today. ‍ ‍

Here are things you will need to, or in some cases, may want to bring: ‍

● Passport with a photocopy.‍

● Personal prescriptions, Pepto Bismol, Benadryl, Ibuprofen or Tylenol.‍

● Bug repellant.‍

● Small toiletries, such as shampoo, body wash, toothpaste etc.‍

● Personal hand sanitizer, wipes, toilet paper if you are away from the camp.‍ ‍

● Sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, rain poncho.‍

● A daypack.‍ ‍

● Personal snacks if you get hangry or prefer something extra.‍

● If you need a blow-dryer you might want to share one with the group.‍

● Power goes out periodically. Bring a small flashlight.‍ ‍

● Shoes for travel and work with closed toes. Sandals or water-shoes for the river.‍

● Clean clothes for church and in the school; modest skirts, capris or slacks (in some churches women only wear dresses.) Hiking clothing that dries fast is nice in the heat. Feel free to leave clothes in Honduras when you go home if you like.‍ ‍

● Sheets and towels are provided. Again, if you bring any of this and want to leave it, feel free to.‍ ‍

● Money (you know your spending habits) for travel days, excursions (like zip-line) and souvenirs.‍ ‍

● Bible and a small journal.‍ ‍

● You may want to bring your phone. Let me really encourage you to use it on airplane mode for pictures etc. This is a rare opportunity to leave the distractions and habits behind and communicate with God in an unhurried way. Your group leader will make sure your people in the USA know you have arrived and will get them any information they need to know. Give your loved ones your group leader’s phone number and the email thekinddonkey@gmail.com , and they will be able to get any important messages through to you.‍ ‍

● Clothes to wear while we splash in the river. Most local people will wear lighter weight clothes/shorts for this. Remember that you will be in a modest culture and plan accordingly. ‍ ‍

● Earplugs if snoring bothers you.‍ ‍

● A spirit of gratitude and anticipation for what God has for this time.
